Red is a lot like their peers nowadays. They're hard rock with some real melody thrown in for good measure. They have a lead vocalist who has a great melodic/intense voice, and even a backup vocalist who has some talent when it comes to the art of a nice scream. However, the one thing they don't have in common with their peers is that their studio sound can't even touch that of their live sound. I saw Red live before I'd ever heard their debut album End Of Silence and was completely floored. The intensity and passion they brought to the table rivaled that of even the headlining act. You could tell they were having fun without sacrificing the music. So based on their performance I bought End Of Silence.
Make no mistake, End Of Silence is a thoroughly enjoyable CD full of pulse-pounding riffs and vocals, gorgeous acoustics and even some incredible melodic vocals, but this CD doesn't capture ANY of the presence of their live show. A few of the songs they played (Breathe Into Me and Wasting Time) were so much more intense live than they are on the CD, and to be honest, it let me down.
The one thing that I really like about Red is how they make excellent use of strings and the piano in their songs. On the other side though, there's no guitar solos, which sucks. Breathe Into Me, their single as of now, is classic radio fodder. Brooding verses giving way to an anthemic chorus, it's nothing we haven't heard before and the only thing that makes Red's version different is Michael Barnes' vocals. Let Go is just that all-around catchy song. There's a great riff with vocals that are easy to grasp yet are angry/vulnerable enough to convey the proper emotion. A definite highlight. Already Over has a terrific intro complete with the piano, other than that it's your typical soft verses/hard, sing along chorus type song. Wasting Time is far and away my favorite track offered. Wasting Time is without a doubt a chorus-driven song but that doesn't hinder what's a truly great song. Already Over Pt. 2 is just Already Over performed acoustic. I like the original better but it's nice to know Red has talent with acoustics too.
My favorite songs are Breathe Into Me, Let Go, Already Over, and Wasting Time. I like Red, they may not have an original sound but they do have a vocalist that I really enjoy. Hopefully though, on their next CD they'll capture that essence that they have live that made me a fan to begin with.

I didn't know what to expect when I first heard this CD... but after the first few initial listens, I was hooked! Lyrically and musically, this band rocks harder and more heart filled than a lot of other offerings out there. BUY IT!!! You will not regret it.

I got the CD in a very timely manner, which was great!!! And I really enjoy the album, which is hard when you hear just a couple songs that you like and have to think carefully before buying the rest of the songs.
