 | Detailed notes from a reformed perspective May 24, 2010 |
| This is an amazing resource. The format is easy to navigate and the information doesn't seem to stop! The notes are thoughtful and thorough, provided with a reformed point of view and each scrutinized for accuracy. We also have a copy of the "Spirit of the Reformation" Bible which is an NIV translation. I find the font and format of this edition to be more easily readable, however I do miss the inclusion of the additional documents found in the NIV version such as the Confessions and the Catechism etc. I own a pocket copy of the Westminster Catechism so I just tuck that in my case. You won't regret this purchase, it has helped me open the scriptures in a new way. | | | | What's New in the Second Edition Mar 12, 2010 |
I had the first edition of the RSB Hardback. It was my favorite Bible. Along the way I misplaced it and I used other Bibles that I had around the house. I came across the page on this site for the second edition while looking up a Bible for my mother. I got pretty excited to see a second edition, but I couldn't find what the differences were between the two editions. So, I blindly bought one for my Mother and one for my self (at this site's price it was cheap).
So, for those who already have the first edition and are thinking about buying the second, here are the changes:
1) a new presentation (To: - From:) page. 2) a new color map set in the back of the book. 3) a new "Read the Bible in a year" schedule. 4) a new paper dust jacket. 5) thinner paper.
The text of the Bible has not changed, as far as I could tell. All the same text is on the same page numbers.
Had I not lost my first edition and had bought the second, I would have been very disappointed.
For those who do not have this study Bible, I would recommend it to any student of the Bible. It has helpful notes, great theological articles and the ESV text is so easy to read. I use mine everyday. | | | | the Reformation Study Bible ESV Burgundy Leather 2nd Edition Jan 31, 2010 |
I debated between purchasing the ESV Study Bible or the Reformation Study Bible ESV. I decided on the Reformation Study Bible, and I have absolutely no regrets. I've been using it every day with great satisfaction. The introduction written by R.C.Sproul is a wonderful tribute to the Bible itself, as well as to the history of the Reformation, what caused it, and the men God used to birth it. The study notes are worthy of such a Bible, written by men of God who revere the Bible for what it is, the inspired word of God, and who also uphold the doctrines of grace and the principles of the Reformation. The format of this Bible reminds me much of the original Geneva Bible. The ESV is a very faithful translation, and the Reformation Study Bible is an excellent tool for anyone who seeks to know Jesus Christ and His word and who longs to know Him better. I highly reccommend it to all who desire truth. James Trotter | | | | pleasant Nov 24, 2009 |
| Thank you for the quick delivery. Explains the verses very well and very helpful in understanding what is going on in the times. | | | | Reformation Light! Nov 6, 2009 |
The ESV Reformation Study Bible (RSB), Black Genuine Leather edition is an excellent resource!
The ESV text is accurate, clear and is printed in paragraph format. The RSB has approximately 100 helpful articles from a Reformed/Calvinist viewpoint all of which are well written. The print size is larger than the recently released ESV Study Bible and is printed in two columns. The study notes are good although the font for these notes is a little small. The leather quality is good and the binding is sewn for durability.
This Bible is easy to handle and carry to church and clearly emphasizes the Sovereignty of God throughout! The first edition (the one I use) did not include color maps but its only real weakness is one shared by all ESV Bibles to date and that is its concordance is pitiful for a study Bible. It lacks breadth and it does not contain Bible Personality summaries as most study Bibles do (see NASB Ryrie, NIV Study Bible, HCSB Scofield etc).
I rate the RSB as four stars because it is quite good except for the concordance. | | | Write your own review about Reformation Study Bible: ESV: 2nd Ed w/Maps
