Pastor Bill Perkins produced a high quality book on why men succumb to sexual temptations and how they can win the battle against lust. The book begins with an outline of the struggles encountered by men with respect to temptation. The author explains why naked women look so beautiful and in particular, why other women look better than our wives. He explains why men often succumb to lust and why it can be very addictive.
The author comes up with practical suggestions that should help men comprehend the immense power of sexual temptation and how to overcome them. One major step forward is to admit the problem if lust has taken control instead of hiding it. Despite men falling victim to lust and temptation, the author explains that God still loves us and is ready to assist in overcoming the problem.
Among the insightful solutions the author suggests is for men to cultivate buddyship, whereby men develop a strong relationship with a small group of other men, where they share their problems, open up and reveal the secrets that may be bringing shame and guilt to their lives. Together as buddies, and with the help of earnest prayers, they can be helped to overcome the problems with lust and temptation.
I, however, see the possibility of some women readers getting the impression that Christian men see women as sexual objects. This would be unfortunate as the author's message is clear and directed to a particular audience, men, focused on helping those men afflicted with lust and temptation to overcome this menace and not in any way to degrade women.
The author uses a simple writing style that makes the book readable and makes the reader understand the temptations that men are subjected to on a daily basis. The author provides an honest and insightful presentation of why good men are tempted and how they can overcome this problem. The book is recommended reading by all men.

While I'm not an athiest I agree with the reviwers view.Before
I even married my now ex fiance,he insisted we read the book
together to ensure I knew all about male desires for women.He insisted I never fail to look my best and be his only temptation.He insisted women were put on this earth to please
all of men's needs.Let's say the only good I got out of the book was an eye opener into the Christian males thinking about
women.To my horror I found the thinking common among Christian
men.Women are the temptress and men are the ones with this
enormous sex drive.It was enough to lead me in many different
directions,most of all away from the ideas from the far right
about women.I found the book insulting and a put down to women.
Now I'm another religion which is part of my family background
anyway.I have to let these men know what a turn off this
thinking is,how it can drive women away from Christianity,how it can keep both sexes in a limiting view of each other.It's
insulting to read" women are beautiful and men are wired to
desire them" Why not the reverse Mr.Perkins?Are women so void
of sexuality you only mention men being "wired"?I'm glad I read
the book because it kept me from falling into a bad or even
dangerous relationship.I know other women who have read this
book and it made them feel a sense of sadness at how women are

When Good Men are Tempted ventures into the area of sexual immorality for Christian men. Bill Perkins does a good job of explaining why men are so suseptable to lust and gives some practical methods to help defeat temptation.
Bill Perkins starts off by examining the reasons behind lust and why it's so addictive. From here he moves on to admitting that lust has control over you and knowing that dispite all that you have done, your heavenly Father still accepts you and loves you for who you are.
He also includes a chapter called "The Family of Origin" where he attempts to discuss codependence. This chapter seemed to be out of place with the rest of the book, but was interesting regardless. I thought that the chapter was also too short.
From here the rest of the book focuses on breaking the addictive habits that are in place through identifying what you are losing from lust, what you could gain from eliminating lust from your life, finding a buddy or a small group with which to open up and expose your secrets and work together to lift each other up, and meditating on the Word of God.
I especially enjoyed the chapter on Buddyship where he talks about how men have lost the art of having deep relationship with other men. He gives some excellent advice about why it is so important to have someone you can be completely open with and how it can help the both of you draw closer to God.
This book takes a slightly more liberal approach than the book "Every Man's Battle", but is still deeply rooted in scripture. I enjoyed this book and found it very easy to read and I would definitely recommend it, but I would also recommend "Every Man's Battle" so one get's an understanding of 2 different views. 5 out of 5 stars. | | | Write your own review about When Good Men Are Tempted (Updated)
