 | My thoughts on this book May 7, 2010 |
| This is a very good book. It is told in a very understandable way and as you get into it, you feel like you are there, experiencing the trip with them.Love the end result and can't wait for the continuing story! I sure hope Penny writes the second edition too! | | | | Following God into a Maelstrom Apr 19, 2010 |
Penny Caldwell's book, God of the Mountain, is an adventure that compels you to read "just one more page." It is the story of the obedience a young family of four living in Saudi Arabia and working for Aramco. The story begins with the gnawing desire to find, photograph, and publish the Mt. Sinai of Exodus. To this end, the parents and two young children are confronted by every extreme, from life threatening confrontations to a whirlwind of the presence of God.
Have you ever wondered, "Where's any proof of the Exodus story?" or, "Is the Bible true?" Wikipedia lists Mt. Sinai as being near St. Katherine City in the Sinai Peninsula, as identified by Constantine's mother, Helena, in the fourth century. Is there any archeological proof there? Is there any evidence that a company of 2-4 million people camped there in the presence of a mountain that appeared to be burning? If so, can we photograph it? If not, where is the genuine site?
Jim and Penny Caldwell were uniquely equipped to take on this task because they are residents of Arabia who know God and His Word. The story begins with the Caldwells packing up their two children for a vacation of a lifetime in Egypt to check out the traditional site. Sometimes the reader squirms with the Caldwells as they sit in a dank room being interrogated by guards, always just one syllable from disaster. At other times, the reader is treated to a unique travelogue that invites one to enjoy the cool breeze coming from the breathtakingly beautiful Red Sea.
Eventually, after repeated trips, the reader is with the Caldwells in a jeep in the desert surrounding Mr. Lawz in Arabia being followed by guards. The reader shares the adventure that by this time has become an obsession. Repeatedly, circumstances point to death, capture, failure, or confusion only to be rescued by an eleventh hour answer or escape route.
The photographs the Caldwells were able to obtain and smuggle out of the country are stunning proof of the existence not only of the presence of a horde of people, but also, that they sacrificed, that large amounts of water once flowed, that a mountaintop was curiously scorched, that a multistory rock was cracked in half, that 12 pillars once existed, and much more. Truly, only a person who was a resident of Arabia who also enjoyed the protection of authority to obtain the permits to camp in this region who also prayed daily for divine protection could have obtained these photos.
This is a remarkable story with a remarkable conclusion. In this age of the restoration of the truth of God's Word, the Caldwells have made a significant contribution. They have brought the real Mt. Sinai to the attention of those who care to look. Equal to that contribution, they have set a living example of the cost, and also the reward, of following God into a maelstrom.
| | | | A must-read for people seeking the truth about the old testament Jan 19, 2010 |
The God Of The Mountain is based on a daily journal that accounts the experiences of an average american family that traveled throughout the Middle East during the early 90's. Written in in author's own words, The God Of The Mountain also describes how her family was inspired to seek out the true location of the biblical Mount Sinai.
This book is written so that you feel as if you are right there with Jim, Penny, and their two children as they travel through Egypt and Saudi Arabia. In several occasions, they face real-life perils and dangers that would make the vast majority of adventurers turn and run for home!!
The God Of The Mountain uncovers indisputable evidence that the stories found in the Old Testament are simply not folk lore that can be explained away by modern science. A must-read for anyone living in the modern age with doubts about their faith in God and his holy word - the bible. | | | | exciting book Jan 9, 2010 |
