Reviews - What do our customers think?
Max  Jan 30, 2010
Purchased this book for my daughter's four boys. She says they really enjoyed it. Has Max Lucado ever done anything noninspirational? He is so good.

1-3 people like it !  Jan 25, 2010
My husband and 8 year old daughter read this book on night. They liked the pictures but didn't like the books content. I wanted to read it with my daughter again so could write at review but she refused - 'Mom is was boring'. I did read it by myself - the content was OK and the pictures were amazing -- but I am not the target. So -- it did not my pass the 8 year old girl test.

Nice story for Christian audience  Jan 22, 2010
An outcast little boy wants to be cool. One day he's chosen to receive some stilts, which give him respect and allow him to figuratively rise above the crowd. But he doesn't have the talent, so he crashes back to the ground and to his unrespected status. Until Jesus comes, gives him a hand, and tells him to walk with him. Then the boy is able to put away the stilts and feel as though he's tall even though he's small because Jesus loves him.

My favorite part of this book is the illustrations. They are bright and colorful. The text mostly rhymes and is easy to read, but there is a moralizing tone to it. I hadn't realized how much of a Christian orientation the book had and wouldn't have chosen it if I had known.

The book teaches children that they should take comfort in the fact that Jesus loves them and accept their status in life. If this is the message you want to teach your child, it's a good story. If you'd rather teach the lesson of working to acquire a difficult skill or the value of reaching out to others different from you or the value of support from a friend or parent, this isn't the right book.

Delightful...  Jan 21, 2010
The Tallest of Smalls is a delightful book by Max Lucado. He shares an imaginative tale of the Smalls. The Smalls all want to be tall. At six each evening every day they gather in Stiltsville's town square to see who will be given the sticks. The sticks are stilts. The person wearing the stilts is called the Stiltsvillian. Little Ollie wanted to wear the sticks. He never felt like he fit in, his clothes had patches, he snorted when he laughed, drooled when he was sleeping. Ollie wasn't cool.
One day his name was called for the sticks. As he looked down on others, "he looked down on others." Being up high did not meet his expectations. It did not make him cool.
Max Lucado is the master of children's stories. The Tallest of Smalls has a message for young and old alike, "Jesus loves us just as we are." I saw another message in the book also. Many times we strive for a role we are not ready for. The illustrations are bright and colorful. They add dimension to the text. The rhyming prose is sure to please youngsters. Lucado once again shares loving attributes of our Lord and Savior.

Max Lucado does it again!!! Excellence beyond compare!!  Jan 15, 2010
Having the opportunity to read and review Max Lucado's The Tallest of Smalls, Illustrated by Maria Montscillo is one of the reasons I love being a blogger review team member for Thomas Nelson Publishing!!! As in the past, Max Lucado has managed to write a children's story that children young and old can enjoy and learn from.

The artwork is magnificent! The story timeless! The Gospel is presented in such a way that it is irresistible to young and old. The Tallest of Smalls is a parable based on his book, Fearless which was published in September 2009. I haven't had the opportunity to read it yet, but after reading this you can bet I plan on it!

The Tallest of Smalls is a great find for families to share together, Sunday School classes to share together and for children to read through time and time again as they enjoy the message that is share through the illustrations all by themselves. This is a priceless addition to everyone's home, school, and church library! But don't take my word for it...go and get a copy for yourself and the special children in your life! You won't regret it!
