Item Description... Overview The Lowlander family struggle to keep their secrets hidden from each other as Prince Charles heads to Scotland with his army to reclaim the throne.
Publishers Description A mother who cannot face her future. A daughter who cannot escape her past. "No moon in sight," Donald observed, resting his forehead lightly on the glass. "No Highlanders either." "They'll arrive soon enough." Marjory extinguished the candle by her bed, shrouding the room in darkness. "Sleep while you can. And keep that bonny young wife of yours close at hand." "Aye." The smile in his voice was unmistakable. "So I shall." " Edinburgh 1745 "Dowager Lady Marjory Kerr, a widow of substantial means, has two passions in life: maintaining her place in society and coddling her two grown sons. Lady Elisabeth Kerr, wife of the elder son, harbors a dark family secret, buried long ago in distant Aberdeenshire. When tragedy strikes, Janet Kerr, wife of the younger son, finds the ties binding her to Marjory and Elisabeth slowly unraveling. A timeless tale of loss and redemption, flickering against the vivid backdrop of eighteenth-century Edinburgh, "Here Burns My Candle "reveals the many flaws of human nature and the bright hope of divine providence. |

 | A wonderful reading experience! May 27, 2010 |
| Here Burns My Candle is another great book by an excellent author. The book is full of vivid characters and parallels the book of Ruth. It is a book that is extremely difficult to put down once reading begins. I can't wait for the sequel to be written. As usual Liz does it again!!!!!! | | | | Another True Delight May 25, 2010 |
| Liz Curtis Higgs managed to capture my heart and my imagination once again. I admit, after being caught up in the Lowlands of Scotland series, and then Grace in Thine Eyes (the stand alone that fits with the series), I was a little hesitant because I didn't want to be disappointed. I'm glad I just went for it. Higgs delivered another amazing historical novel where she has fast forwarded an ancient story into a more tangible time period. The descriptions aren't too lengthy, but they stay with you. You can nearly feel the misty air, the cold breezes, and the comfort of having a plaid. To learn that Edinburgh still has many of its crooked streets makes this novel a virtual vacation. Step out of your own life and into the Kerr household. Become a part of the story as you follow Bess through her journey of growth, get annoyed at Janet, and see Majory's heart become softened once again. | | | | Another Winner from Liz! May 25, 2010 |
I have yet to find a writer who makes auld Scotland come alive as beautifully as Liz Curtis Higgs. Once again, I felt like I was THERE! Having read all of her novels about Scotland, I've actually traveled there twice and added places to my itinerary that I'd read about in her stories. It was amazing to see a place in real life and have it look so much like I'd imagined it from reading the books.
"Here Burns My Candle" is my new favorite from Liz. Reading it makes me want to go back "home" to Scotland. | | | | Excellent book, loved it! May 25, 2010 |
| I have read all of Liz Curtis Higgs' novels and have enjoyed every last one. Here Burns My Candle was another great book that I finished in two days. I can hardly wait for the second book next spring! | | | | And I'm a man! May 24, 2010 |
| Liz slants her writings a little toward the women folks, but I am not a women and I truly have enjoyed everything of hers that I've read,, even "Unveiling Mary Magdalene". I just love the way she weaves her characters into historical facts. I have started and stopped several books in my life, but it is near impossible to start a Liz Curtis Higgs without completing it in a timely fashion. "Here Burns My Candel" is just another wonderful example of her mastery in story telling. Love it, recommend it! | | | Write your own review about Here Burns My Candle Large Print (Apr 2010)
