Overview
A word from the author about the necessary attitude of heart for the reader. If God is to bless him at all through these pages he must come to them with a deep hunger of heart. He must be possessed with a dissatisfaction of the state of the church in general, and of himself in particular--especially of himself. He must be willing for God to begin His work in himself first, rather than in the other man. He must, moreover, be possessed with the holy expectancy that God can and will meet his need. If he is in any sense a Christian leader, the urgency of the matter is intensified many times over. His willingness to admit his need and be blessed will determine the degree to which God can bless the people to whom he ministers. Above all, he must realize that he must be the first to humble himself at the cross. If a new honesty with regard to sin is needed among his people, he must begin with himself. It was when the King of Nineveh arose from his throne, covered himself with sackcloth, and sat in ashes as a sign of his repentance, that his people repented.

Let not, however, those readers who are not leaders be tempted to look at those who are and wait for them. God wants to begin with each one of us. He wants to begin with you.

Broken......... Emptied....... For the Master's Use!  Nov 27, 2006
I found this book to be very helpful in my Christian walk with the Lord. Roy Hession makes everything so interesting the way he talks of living in a constant life of brokeness. His writing style draws you in. This book will help anyone- christian or a backslider to keep coming and come to the foot of the cross, where his blood cleanses our sins. His way of explaining about having constant revival in our hearts, and a fervent love for God burning that is never doused, is so captivating. As I read this book I found myself totally surrounded with the truth, that we are sinners in constant need of a Saviour! Praise His Name!To live a broken, humble life that is in constant revival(by the way, if revival seems hard it is us that is the problem)we need to come to the cross where we will find Jesus waiting. I would definitly recommend this book!

Walking our Talk  Nov 26, 2006
This book is a wonderful reminder of the basics of Christian living. First we must be humble and broken, seeing Jesus for who He is, and ourselves for who we are. Then we must ask for cleansing and renewal through His precious blood, and, walking in the light, go on in fellowship with Him and with one another. The Christian life isn't based on dutiful observance of ritualistic procedures, like praying, reading the Bible, and going to Church at the right times. It's based on God, and what He becomes to us when we put our trust in Him.

Life Impacting for the Desperate and Needy  May 10, 2005
I was 16 the first time I read this book and it greatly impacted my life then. It was the first stepping stone to walking in freedom in Christ, showing me that the fears, insecurities and shyness that I never thought of (and even blamed others for, "If only they'd do this...") were from my own sins, and Jesus could free me from them.

Life has taken many paths and I forgot much of what was talked about in the book, and more recently the old fears and insecurities crept in again. I picked up the book again and the Lord exposed the places I'd tried to hide - where I'd tried to be strong, able, and just proud, trying to prove that I was okay, rather than agreeing with God that I'm not good without Him, and letting Jesus be my goodness. I discovered that the thing I was running from (conviction, brokenness, and humility) is the thing that has brought me the peace I otherwise hadn't been able to find.

Powerful little book!!  Sep 5, 2004
In this little book published by Christian Literature Crusade (CLC), Roy Hession focuses on the road a Christian must take in order for him/her to be useful to God. Brokenness, humility of heart and mind, purity, and other virtues are necessary, and at the end of the book, he speaks about his own "Calvary Road" so many years ago which prompted him to write this book.

A powerful little book with a great deal of insight for the Christian.

The blood of Christ  Aug 22, 2004
Pastors and mature Christians have strongly recommended this book to me. They told me it has changed their lives. The principles about living in the light are really good and should be stressed in this day and age where sin is considered an outdated concept even in Christian circles. I knocked one star because even though it is only around a hundred pages, it seemed repetitious to me. The phrase "the blood of Christ" was used so much it almost became a mantra. Yes, it is the central concept of Christianity, but there is more to the Christian walk. The Church and the fellowship of believers is important as well.

It is definitely worth another read and perhaps it will grow on me. Perhaps my expectations were too high. I recommend the book, but the book did not "impact" me as much as I thought it should.
