The CD starts off with a distinctly Southern(read: TN) rap feel. By this I mean heavy beats and somewhat thin loops for the background. The expertise of this duo is not immediately obvious. Around about track 4, things pick up and get back on track to what you would expect. A feature by Canibus was surprising, given the genre. Overall, the CD has the typical 1-3 winners, along with some additional filler.
In a nutshell: Not bad for the money ($5-6), but don't pay more than $9.

The GRITS have been holding it down for Christian rap for as long as I can remember. With Redemption, they fulfilled their commitment to Gotee and are free to focus on their new record label, 5e Entertainment. While Redemption has some of their characteristic hip but southern sound and showcases their versatile lyrical styles, the first half comes off feeling almost forced which is not acceptable for a group with as much talent as they have. They get it together over the second half though, and deliver a couple of incredible joints which make the album worth having on on their own.
Best cuts: Right Back, Open Bar and We Workin.

"Redemption" is Grits' final album with Gotee Records, as they will be going independent. This disc is a departure from the mostly rapid-fire pace of the Dichotomy A & B albums which I loved. This disc's slower, more laid back style just doesn't grab me on most cuts. However, the skillful rhyme-spitting and vocal tones are still there for Coffee and Bonafide, and they made a great move in including former LA Symphony member Pigeon John on two cuts, "Open Bar" which features a smooth track and chorus, and "You Said" which features PJ dropping clever sing-song style rhymes in a song about ill-fated relationships. The female backing vocals are also strong, but Pigeon John steals the show on these two tracks. The disc is just ok, but worth having in my opinion even if just for the two previously mentioned songs.

GRitS are at their best when the underlying foundation of a song is a strong (catchy) melody. Witness "They All Fall Down," and "Here We Go." On "Redemption," Coffee and Bone seemed to have abandoned their original purpose of making the most innovative hip-hop in the industry and have made an album that merely bites what is on the playlist of any top 40 rap station in the country. Under the guidance of the production team of Otto Price and Ric Robbins, collectively known as Incorporated Elements, GRitS made their most memorable hits: all of which followed the above-mentioned formula. Now these 3 albums, made after their departure/dismissal, have exposed Bone and Cof's greatest weakness: the inability to make compelling beats. - FYI: Pigeon John makes "Open Bar" the strongest track.
