After sheltering Jews from Nazi soldiers during World War II as part of Holland's underground resistance, Corrie Ten Boom (Jeannette Clift) and her family are arrested and sent to concentration camps, where they rely on their faith to protect them from harm. Julie Harris, Eileen Heckart and Arthur O'Connell also star.

| The Hiding Place is the true story of the heroic Ten Boom family from Haarlem, Holland. During the Nazi invasion, they risked their lives reaching out with love to the persecuted Jews. Although the Jews where never found, the family was arrested on other charges that led to their imprisonment in not only a local Dutch prison but also in the infamous Germany Concentration Camp "Ravensburck" where more then 90,000 woman lost their lives. In the camp Corrie and Betsie (the two Ten Boom sisters) learn that God's love can pierce the deepest darkness. Their faith becomes their strength as they reach out with love to their fellow prisoners. After Corrie's miraculous release from the camp, she traveled the world sharing the important lessons she learned and became a well known author. The film is well done and stars Jeannette Clift, Julie Harris, Arthur O'Connell and Elieen Heckart. This film is a must see and is my personal favorite movie of all times. This inspiring movie is the true story of the Ten Booms who during the nazi occupation of Holland hid Jews from the nazis and their Dutch helpers. They were part of a small group of devout people who came forward when the secular government chose to collaborate in handing over Holland's Jews to the German occupation authorities (seventy six percent of Holland's Jews perished in the camps).
Unfortunately, they were caught. And it should be a lesson to all that compassion to the wicked is harmful to the good for the Ten Booms sealed their fate and endangered the lives of those they were protecting by refusing to kill the very man who ultimately betrayed them. Though the Jews they hid survived, only one of the family survived.
This is the story of the two sisters, from the day the occupation began through their ordeal in Ravensbruch where one of them died.

| OK, the disc isn't coming out until January--missing a sure market at Christmas time--and so I cannot talk about disc quality, BUT, even if it was a grainy, botched-up disc, the story makes up for any problems that may come with this title. This is a true story of Corrie Ten Boom and her family's journey to hell after trying to keep a small number of Jews during WWII and how her faith kept her both alive and from harm--even when terribly tested. World Wide Pictures spared no expense on this one and the money spent shows. The picture spares no punches--there is violence, blood, and all the horrors of the camps. The message is clear and the acting is top-notch. There is even a scene with Corrie telling the end of the story. If you are a believer, this is a film to get. | | |  | Reflections Oct 16, 2005 |
The movie does a good job of describing the horror of the Nazi occupation of Europe and the hell of the concentration camps. But one has to wonder about the ten Boom family and the terrible sacrifice that they made. Was it worth it? What did they actually accomplish?
Watching the movie, I am left with the impression that the ten Booms were simple-minded folk with a few screws loose. Papa ten Boom does not understand why a member of the underground would not use his true name. He thinks, if everyone wears a Star of David, the Nazis will not be able to distinguish Jews from Christians. When Papa, Betsie, and Corrie are told by the underground to exercise caution when admitting strangers to the house, they reply that God will tell them who to admit. Well, they let Jan Vogel in, and that is how they got caught.
A few people were hidden, but what happened to them? Did they survive the war? Corrie lost her father, sister, brother, and nephew as a result of their inspired foolishness. What did it accomplish? | | | Write your own review about Hiding Place (Billy Graham Presents)
