Product Description
A LAS VEGAS CABBIE ENLISTS THE HELP OF A UFO EXPERT TO PROTECT TWO SIBLINGS WITH PARANORMAL POWERS FROM THE CLUTCHES OF AN ORGANIZATION THAT WANTS TO USE THE KIDS FOR THEIR NEFARIOUS PLANS.

Outline
Loosely based on Alexander Key's novel Escape to Witch Mountain, Race to Witch Mountain is not so much a remake of the 1975 film Escape to Witch Mountain as an entirely new film based on some key plot points from the former film. When two innocent-looking teens appear in Jack Bruno's (Dwayne Johnson) cab and tell him that "we must travel in that direction," Jack thinks it's a bit strange, but shrugs it off and starts driving. Soon they're being followed and chased off the road, but is it Jack's past catching up with him or something much larger? Sara (AnnaSophia Robb) and Seth (Alexander Ludwig) reluctantly confess that they are aliens from another planet, but Jack refuses to accept their statement until Sara starts moving things with her mind and Seth slips through the body of the car and deflects the SUV that's pursuing them. Sara and Seth tell Jack that they must recover their crashed spaceship in order to save earth from being taken over by aliens, so Jack takes them to see Dr. Alex Friedman (Carla Gugino); a scientist who he met by chance and who believes in the possible existence of extra-terrestrials. While the four are initially wary of one another, Dr. Friedman provides some valuable contacts and they begin trusting one another out of sheer necessity. Soon they're battling secret government agencies, heavily armed personnel, and even a cybernetic Siphon (that looks a lot like a Cylon from Battlestar Galactica) in a desperate attempt to gain access to the heavily fortified Witch Mountain and the crashed spacecraft. Action-packed car chases dominate the film (a bit excessively, in this reviewer's opinion), but the acting and chemistry between actors is good as is the suspense and intrigue. Rated PG due to sequences of action and violence, frightening and dangerous situations, and some thematic elements. (Ages 9 and older) --Tami Horiuchi

A bit dark  Apr 20, 2010
The plot of this movie was cute. However, as cute as the kids are, there wasn't a whole lot of alienness to the film, except for a bit of telepathy. There's very little "magic" to the story. Also, much of the movie is really dark and the production quality wasn't great (admittedly, I saw it on DVD, not blu-ray, but still it was hard to see a lot of the darker scenes). Overall, I liked The Last Mimzy (Widescreen Infinifilm Edition) better, which had a similar plot and a real air of mystery.

It's Blu-ray it's what I ordered and it's entertaining.  Apr 14, 2010

Pursuit, Action  Jan 31, 2010
In this film, "Race To Witch Mountain" is frought with thrills and excitement.
Dwayne Johmson plays a cabbie in Las Vegas who is trying to do the right thing
when two aliens disguised as teenagers suddenly appear in his cab: he provides his protection to these two teenagers who are being pursued by government agents
and an alien hunter; the car chases, the close calls and the special effects will keep the audience riveted to their seats- the children must find their space ship so they may return to their planet in time to save it, which, in turn, will save the Earth too. This film is the final episode of the trilogy
put out by Disney Studios. It promisises to be a full family action-adventure to be enjoyed by all.

Excellent Movie!!!  Jan 30, 2010
I saw previews for this movie and it looked good and very action packed! My 4 and 6 year old boys are very much into action movies, but as Christians, it's hard to find good movies these days that don't contain bad language. This is one of the few newer movies that we have been thrilled with. No bad language...tons of action...good for the whole family. I highly recommend this movie.

Don't race to this witch mountain  Jan 19, 2010

Running time: 1:38
A UFO has landed outside of Las Vegas. The authorities discover with computer technology that the footprints they found belong to two humaniod teenagers.
Jack Bruno (Dwayne Johnson) is a bored taxicab driver with a hard past. He gets insomnia. He is as strong the a wrestler named "Rock". He gets all kind of weird people and characters in his cab and tonight is no different with a UFO convention in town.
He also gets two intelligent teenagers that have a specific coordinates to get too. With the help of Jack and his taxicab they finally reach this old shack house. They pay Jack $750 dollars plus $500 more.
Concerned about the kids in the house, he tells them they have overpaid. Inside he finds the kids know a secret entrance to a basement below.
This leads Jack into an adventure with the young human aliens and he ultimatly tries to get them to Witch Mountain where their spaceship is at.

Also in the cast: Carla Gugino, Tom Everett Scott, Cheech Marin, Robert Torti, John Kassir, Garry Marshall.

Kim Richards and Ike Eisenmann who were the original "Tia" & "Tony" in Disney's EEscape to Witch Mountain (Special Edition) (1975) and Return from Witch Mountain Special Edition (1978) have a small part together.
At the Stoney Creek Restaurant, Kim Richards plays a waitress and Ike Eisenmann plays the Sheriff.
Meredith Salenger of The Journey of Natty Gann (1985) has a cameo appearance.

This movie was filmed in Las Vegas, Nevada. In California in Agua Dulce, Santa Clarita, Palmdale, Pomona, Glendale.

I did not care for this modern version of the Witch Mountain films. I liked the simpleness and innocence of the orignial Disney films of the 1970's.
It was very nice for them to bring back Kim Richards and Ike Eisenmann together for this film.
