This is definitely my favorite Caedmon's Call CD (second being My Calm/Your Storm). Few bands have such excellent singers (Cliff, Derek, and Danielle) as well as songwriters (Aaron Tate and Derek Webb). This is where Derek Webb really begins to excel as all of his songs are excellent. This CD is almost a decade old but still makes it into my rotation often. Highlights include: Lead Of Love, This World, Standing Up For Nothing, I Just Don't Want Coffee, Not Enough, Center Aisle, and Coming Home. I think Center Aisle in one of Derek Webb's best written songs as it always chokes me up a little. This is the standard of what insightful, intelligent Christian music should sound like and although I do not think Caedmon's Call ever matched this album, they are still making a huge difference in the Christian market today. And Derek Webb is doing quite well, too (check out his solo album "She Shall And Must Go Free" - that's definitely his best album of the 3 currently out). But this CD has something so special as the 3 singers all bring something different to the table. If you do not have this CD, do yourself a favor and buy it. You will not be sorry!

I have collected the entire Caedmon's Call CD series and am very much pleased with my find of this not too preachy contemporary christian music that is more soft rock/popish in sound with a folk beat throughout the albums. As I have said in other Caedmon's Call albums, this 7 person group is a collection of people who have one thing in common - faith in their beliefs. This album is full of songs that have messages in them for many ages and lifestyles...that is wrapped around with the strong firm grip of faith. The songs are craftily made and a pleasure to listen too. The listener can tell that the artist has taken great pride in these songs. All songs are imbued with life changing sistuations and decisions and how they affect people. The songs of 'Bus Driver', 'Hope To Carry On', 'Stupid Kid' and 'Not Enough' are the picks of this truly wonderous album. This band is for fans of Third Day, Across The Sky or Faith Hill. Excellent album by a simply amazing group of talented musicians.

i believe that Caedmon's Call is truely the best Christian band possibly ever, or atleast they were before loosing Derek Webb. This album is probably my favorite Caedmon's album. it never seems to fail that Derek's songs are always my favorites on Caedmon's albums, probably because he's the greatest Christian songwriter of our generation, but Aaron Tate is an amazing song writer also, and his songs give Caedmon's albums great balance. Standing Up for Nothing, Center Aisle, and Not the Land are my favorites, if these don't make you think, you probably have no brain. I highly recommend this one and 40 Acres, i think they are the essential Caedmon's albums.

Listening to Caedmon's Call is like taking a musical expedition. This is a very well-balanced album with thoughtful lyrics and excellent music. There's not one bad, or "filler" song on here; although I can't help but skip over 'Stupid Kid', the rest is top-notch. If you've never heard this group, this cd is a must.

One thing you can say about Caedmon's Call: they have never made a weak album. While I must admit I have not yet heard the latest CD, "Back Home," the four I have heard are outstanding. This self-titled album is an earlier one, but already it is marked by mature writing, a distinctive sound-world and excellent artistry.
There is not really a weak song on this disc. All the original material is great; the cover of Rich Mullins's "Hope to Carry On" is excellent. The lyrics on this album blow me away--some examples:
"Though I questioned the sky, now I see why-- Had to walk the rocks to see the mountain-view... Looking back I see the lead of love." (Lead of Love)
"And the least of these Look like criminals to me, So I leave Christ on the street" (This World)
"Everyday when I get up, I see folks trading in their crowns For all these paper-plastic lives... Opiate for the masses' hounds..." (Standing up for Nothing)
"What crimes have you committed...? Demanding such penance... Couldn't wait for five more minutes... And a cry for help?" (Center Aisle)
"You stripped the trees of Lebanon-- Now you're stripping me-- Of the bark of false morality And the bite of selfish greed" (Coming Home)
There is a depth: musically, lyrically, and in Christian maturity, to this album that you would not naturally expect early on in a group's career. It has borne itself out over time in the work of this band. I recommend this disc and the rest of Caedmon's Call's music wholeheartedly.
