An Unsung Gem And Dued It's Honor  Feb 22, 2010
This movie has become my project for the Lent season because unlike other Biblical Hollywood movies, it is not typical "Hollywood". There will be no chariot races; no opening of the Red Sea; no walking on water so to speak - but it does reveal the hand of God moving in the lives of people, even when they are not aware, weaving a beautiful tapestry of life's events, (even the tragedies)into something beautiful.

I'll not make mention of the exquisite directing and screenplay nor of the inspirational and moving musical score - this is for others to dissiminate. However, the movie is among the most tasteful yet not sugary sweet movies produced by Hollywood and has got to be the most respectful of the Biblical accounts. Yes, "The Book of Ruth", (recent movie with Carman), is more accurate to Scripture, but then again, it is not Hollywood. Besides, "The Story of Ruth" only wanders from Scripture because of the insertion of the Moabite priestess bit and the antagonistic encounters between Boaz and Ruth at the beginning of the Judaen episode. I really think that bit was not necessary but oh well, that's Hollywood.

However, kudos have to go to Peggy Wood's performance as Naomi for it fell into pure a Oscar winning category...at least Best Supporting Actress. What a fine dramatic actress, yes, even in the "The Sound of Music".

And last but actually, first of all, honor goes to Elana Eden, the young, and very beautiful movie actress on loan at the time from the Israel Defense Forces. A volunteer machine-gunnist, she won the role beating out 300 others in screen tests and gives a memorable performance as the arrogant, pagan temple priestess of Moab and later a subdued, humbled and spiritually transformed widow laboring to make a very meager living for her and her mother-in-law in Bethlehem of Judea.

The the dramatic play of the eyes between Ruth and Naomi should have actually, in my humble opinion, been enough to have gotten an Oscar for both of them together. Their performance of devotion and fidelity for one another on film, I believe matched the sentiments of the real Ruth and Naomi of the Bible.

I know where we Christians are coming from when we are so demanding of a dramatization of a Biblical account. We should be. But, if you are looking for exceptional, family oriented entertainment while paying due respect to the Word of God, do not hesitate to get this product. You will not be disappointed I believe. It is one of the few times Hollywood almost did justice to the Bible.

Loved it.  Feb 21, 2010
I loved it! After watching this movie, I went back and read the book of Ruth in the Bible. I thought it was a wonderful embellishment of the story.

Loved the story of Ruth  Dec 14, 2009
We live in an age where there are few good biblical movies anymore. Dreamworks made some good ones, Notably "The Prince of Egypt". Even Hollywood of old did not make many. This is one of the few and it is very good. Gaps were filled in based on Jewish tradition. Nothing wrong with that. Boaz at first did seem to not be crazy about Ruth in this film, but later on he told her he loved her from the first time he saw her in his field. Very Romantic !! The people were against her at first because they did not know her, but they knew where she came from. This is a normal thing of course. But the story developed wonderfully !!

Amazon Verified Purchase  Nov 21, 2009
I am very pleased with my product. I had been looking for this movie for a very long time. I rarely am on the computer except for work. You could say even with the computer generation I am still walking around with my head in the clouds when it comes to computers. My daughter suggested strongly that I look on your web site, and lets just say the rest is history, I am enjoying my movie which I might add, I did not wait very long before getting it. Thanks from a very satisfied customer.

One line ruined the whole movie  Oct 19, 2009
this was a good until a prophet told Naomi that from Ruth would come a PROPHET that SOME would worship as the Messiah. This basically said that Jesus was a Prophet not the son of God and that some would just believe that he was the Messiah.
